I was playing golf with my brothers at The Oxfordshire the other day; I was partnered with my brother Mick, and we were against my other brother Robin and his friend, who like Robin, also happened to be from Wales.

In summer 1999, I was a member of the Oxfordshire golf club, playing off a handicap of 18 and, as I had started playing golf late in life I hadn't been taking it very seriously. I was still heavily involved in the running of Autotrader with my mind on many different things.

Recently I spoke to an associate of mine who mentioned that he hadn’t ever been a member of a golf club.

 

His reasoning behind this was that there are supposedly cheap green fees available if you keep your options open.

 

He asked ‘why tie yourself down to one club?’
