Review: Titleist SX1 Ultra Light Golf Bag

Written by  Kevin Mullaney on Tuesday, 21 June 2011

Titleist bags have always been a chosen favourite among golfers and while more clubs provide trolley and cart bags, Titleist continue to develop and improve their carry range to accommodate the dedicated golfer who still prefers having his sticks on his back. The newest carry bag is the pinnacle of lightweight comfort and functionality as we review the SX1 Ultra Lightweight bag here.

Titleist has barrowed the design for the Ultra Lightweight from their very popular and larger SX1 carry bag, delivering added comfort in a streamlined design which doesn't compromise on quality. Empty, the bag weighs an astonishing 1.5kg or 3.7 pounds.

The seven inch top cuff features a two-way full length padded divider making it incredibly easy to separate, remove and replace your clubs on the go, while providing valuable protection to the clubs themselves.

As you continue to load up your bag with everything a golfer can possibly need for the unpredictable British weather you start to realise how much space you get from such a focused carry bag. The large side saddle apparel pocket is large enough to fit full water proofs and jumper and contains the matching quick zip rain hood to protect your clubs in the inclement weather.

Next to the dry grip there is a valour lined, safety zip pocket to store your valuables during a round without you having to worry about loss or damage. The main 'coal chute' ball pocket at the base of the bag is deep and can carry more balls than even those newest to golf can lose in a round.

If that isn't enough there is an additional side saddle pocket for any golf gadgets or other accessories, and a clever drinks pocket which can hold two bottles of water. You also get a Velcro umbrella wrap, pen holder and towel hoop to top this bag off.

Once fully loaded the Ultra Lightweight bag has an easy to adjust four-piece padded strap, which you would expect to find on any modern bag. After balancing the straps to suit you the bag becomes unbelievably comfortable distributing weight equally across your shoulders while supporting your lower back with a foam guard that puts a little cushion between you and your clubs.

The quick activation legs, built into the top cuff, work beautifully with broad rubber bases enabling the bag to deploy on even the slickest of surfaces. This multipurpose bag is ideal for anyone throwing in half a set for practice or wanting to go fully loaded in the winter. It's flexible, comfortable, durable and remarkable at only 1.5kg.

The only thing which detracts from this bag is that you only get two club dividers when I would expect at least four, but this is a compromise I am more than willing to make for all of the added benefits.
