Review: Bridgestone E6 Golf Balls 2011

Written by  Andrew Wild on Sunday, 19 February 2012
Winner of a gold award in Golf Digest's 2010 Hot List, and reinvented for the 2011 season last year, we got our hands on the Bridgestone e6 Golf Balls to find out how just how good they are.

As one of the softest multi-layer balls available on the market, Bridgestone claim that the construction of the e6 should reduce side spin and give you added distance - and accuracy - from each swing. Of course, these are two things that every golfer is looking for in their equipment, but we are pleased to report that this ball really does shine as an example of how the right gear can help your game improve.

This is especially important for golfers who struggle to increase their swing speed; and for those of us who don't have the strength to hit at phenomenal speeds and gain distance through power alone, the right golf ball can really make a huge difference. This is where the e6 really came into its own, and I found myself managing to hit more fairways consistently thanks to its ability to negate the slight slice that I suffer from.

So how have Bridgestone done this? Their dual dimple technology is perhaps the most noticeable aspect of the ball's construction, and it is designed so that the outer dimple promotes increased roll via a shallow descent, while the inner dimple increases thrust power for more distance.

The inner layers include an anti side spin layer and an outer soft Surlyn cover, encasing a soft gradational compression core.

This all adds up to make a golf ball which really flies off the face of the driver, providing a penetrating and incredibly straight flight path - with a great deal of roll to boot.

Around the greens, the feel and sound off the putter were very satisfying - somewhat muted and softer than expected. Although it's a little difficult to gain much spin in the short game, the straight path that the e6 consistently delivers does give confidence, which is a trade-off I'm happy to make.

Overall, if you're a mid-handicapper who suffers with accuracy issues, then this ball could really help you. While it's not a quick fix, and certainly not a solution to more fundamental problems with your swing, it can help to accentuate the stronger aspects of your game - which is never a bad thing.

What The Web is Saying

"Bridgestone has conducted nearly 60,000 ball fittings of average golfers, so the company knows what golfers really need, especially off the tee. The e6 is a great example of that education, and we like the softer feel." - golfdigest.com

"It is a pretty fun ball when you just want to hit it straight and hit the greens with ease. It is a great ball, Bridgestone once again has a great product." - golfballed.com

"I just can't say enough good things about the e6. Overall, I haven't found a ball that works better for my game." - thehackersparadise.com
