Titleist have long dominated the golf ball market, particularly with their flagship Pro V1 and Pro V1x , which are favourites on the professional tours. Now they have introduced a new improved version of their NXT Tour golf ball, which they say delivers even longer distance while retaining its commanding scoring shot performance.
Aimed at the low to mid handicap golfer, the NXT Tour ball has always been a good mid-range all rounder. And, after having tried out the new version, we reckon it is even better than its predecessor.
The ball has a large dual core, three-piece construction featuring a slightly smaller, soft centre and higher volume outer core layer, engineered for increased power and longer distance than the prior model. The soft, thin Fusablend cover, softer than Surlyn, features a new spherically tiled octahedral design with four axis of symmetry, and 302 dimples in five different sizes - all intended to deliver long, consistent distance, short game spin and control, soft feel on all shots, and excellent durability.
We found we were indeed achieving more distance from the majority of our shots in comparison to the original NXT Tour, although it was nothing spectacular. But then these balls were never intended to reach the heady heights of the Pro V1/V1x - or the same eye watering price tag.
The new NXT Tour was also good on the short game, offering great control around the green, and had a nice soft feel off the club face. And if all this wasn't enough, its durability is really quite impressive too. After a round our ball still looked shiny and new, better in fact than the earlier model.
If you're in the market for some new golf balls, we would have no reservations in recommending the new Titleist NXT Tour Golf Balls. Just remember that they are no Pro V1/V1x - they won't be making it to the big leagues, but they do have the potential to help you up your golf game.
What the Web is Saying
"Titleist NXT Tour golf balls were always well-suited to the average amateur golfer. The improvements made in the latest version have upped the ante, making these balls good enough for not 'just' average golfers, but highly skilled players too." - golf-equipment-reviews.com
"The NXT Tour is an eminently capable ball that attempts to strike the balance of all key performance and pricing characteristics that most amateurs are looking for. I personally think that it succeeds in fulfilling the brief extremely well, offering consistent levels of performance that give you a degree of predictability in your game." - goldcoastgolfer.blogspot.com
