Review: Mizuno Golf Modal Cotton Sweater

Written by  David Colyer on Friday, 10 June 2011
It is the time of year when having a good quality golf sweater really is worth the investment. Whether enjoying an early morning golf round, or if you are taking advantage of the longer evenings, you need more than just a polo shirt. Here we review the Mizuno Golf Modal Cotton sweater.

Specifically designed with the golfer in mind this Mizuno sweater features:

  • A shallow V neck, allowing free movement
  • Slim fitting body, in keeping with modern sports clothing
  • Drop needle airmesh on the back creating breathability

The cut of this sweater is just perfect for my physique and if it wasn't for the airmesh on the back I would be happy to wear this as an everyday garment. The slimmer fitting body shape ensures that I can take those short iron shots completely unhindered, or can lean forward to pick away at the rough without the sweater flopping forwards.

The V neck, tight cuffs and fitted cut also works perfectly to allow a full swing with complete moveability. You will not feel it being too tight across the upper back or too loose under the arms as you stretch the driver behind you.

Mizuno has done well in combining fabrics here, creating a blend of modal and cotton yarns. The effect is that you stay warm as the temperature drops and yet cool during warmer parts of the day, or as you walk round the course.

To help you stay cool the drop needle mesh on the under arms, the side of the back, and following a V from your shoulders down the centre of the spine, is perfect. The aesthetics of airmesh might not be to everyone's taste but it works well to stop you from becoming too warm. Warm, but breathable sweaters are becoming more common and this one does provide a good balance. You are however still likely to feel a little moisture build up if you had to wear one under a waterproof for any period of time.

Lightweight and providing great comfort the Mizuno Modal Cotton Sweater is available in: black; grey; sky; royal; orange, and white - although you may have to go out of your way to find one outside of the black, grey or sky options.

This Mizuno sweater not only provides a great modern cut, the combination of materials and great design ensures it is a functional garment and not just a fashion accessory. Although, the fit of this sweater may not be well suited to golfers with a larger than athletic frame.
