While it's true that manmade fibres are typically far better suited to this purpose than traditional cotton, Puma's partnership with Cotton Incorporated has yielded their TransDry polo shirt as a reaction against this declining trend in all-cotton golf clothing collections.
If Puma have managed to create a shirt that is all-cotton, and still boasts the same ability to keep you cool and dry in the hotter months, then it could prove to be a big hit - there's no doubt that cotton feels a whole lot nicer on the skin than synthetic fabrics do.
The moisture management technology developed by Cotton Incorporated is designed to wick moisture away from the skin quickly, leaving it on the outside of the shirt so it will dry quickly while keeping the inside dry - so it won't be sticking to your back by the end of a round in the sun.
In practice, we found this to be very effective. In sticky and humid conditions we remained cool and dry throughout the day, which would certainly be an enormous improvement on an untreated cotton shirt, so Cotton Incorporated's technology definitely works.
It made a very pleasant change from the polyester shirts we were used to - being able to play in cotton felt great, especially when it did such a great job of keeping us cool. Instead of feeling as though you're wearing a shirt specifically designed for golf, you feel as though you're just wearing a regular shirt - albeit without the sweatiness that your favourite t-shirt might harbour if you were to wear it on the course.
If you're planning to update your wardrobe for the summer, it's definitely worth trying one on to see how it feels. We're confident that you'll find Puma's latest range as comfortable as we did.
The Puma Golf TransDry Polo Shirt is available in a range of colours and sizes for both men and women.
