The Ralph Lauren Davis Packable Golf Jacket isn't a simple waterproof. As you would expect from a designer line like Ralph Lauren, it's a very stylish and understated piece of clothing. But does it have substance as well as style?

 
Well, it's a good jacket, but it isn't great. With its waterproof quarter zip it's easy to get on and off and can easily be worn over bulkier clothing on a particularly cold day - although you should perhaps by a size bigger than your regular size, otherwise you might find it a bit of a tight fit. It also packs away easily and will fit snugly into your golf bag until needed.
 

This jacket will certainly keep you warm, and the stand up collar will help protect you from those biting winds. However if you are after something that will really hold up against the elements, the Ralph Lauren Davis Packable Golf Jacket is not it.

 
While it does have an elasticated hem and cuffs, they are not adjustable and we found during our round the rain did begin to trickle in under the cuffs. It is sufficiently waterproof to keep you dry during a moderate rain shower, but we doubt it would stand up to anything more. Having said that, it is not really intended for the worst the weather can throw at you.

 
Ultimately, as long as you appreciate the Ralph Lauren Davis Packable Golf Jacket's limitations, it is a very good buy. It might not offer the same protection as some of the more high-tech waterproof jackets on the market, but then, for the price, what do you expect. If you want something that will keep you warm and bone dry no matter how bad the weather, you're going to have to pay substantially more. This jacket however is comfortable, stylish, and good value for money.
