Review: Under Armour Golf Coldgear Winter Mittens

Written by  James Cornish on Monday, 09 January 2012

We review the Under Armour Golf Coldgear Winter Mittens - for players who are not afraid to brave the golf course during the winter months.

Never heard of Under Armour? That will soon change. The company has exploded onto the sports equipment market with a range of clothes that are proven to help performance. The trademark 'X' logo is a guarantee of quality and engineering. Under Armour Golf Coldgear Winter Mittens uphold that reputation.

Under Armour make great cold weather golf gloves and these mittens are a fine accompaniment for when the temperature really dips or the wind is particularly icy. Vitally, Under Armour Golf Coldgear Winter Mittens also combat the rain, which, in the winter, can be a killer.

The nylon outer shell is wind and water resistant and protects an insulated brush micro fleece lining that keeps your hands nice and warm as you go between shots. There is a synthetic leather area on the palm so that you don't sacrifice on grip, allowing you to handle your clubs, wield and umbrella, or get into your bag with ease. This feature is also hard wearing for better durability.

The lack of natural fibres might cause some alarm - could there be problems with breathability and, as a result, sweaty hands that not only exaggerate the cold when they are exposed but also make it harder to grip the club and play your best golf? This is where Under Armour's engineering comes into play. The Coldgear in the title refers to a material that draws moisture away from your skin, allowing them to keep dry.

Coming in only large and extra large, Under Armour Golf Coldgear Winter Mittens are easy to pull on and off. The elasticated wrists and adjustable shock cord closure means that they won't come loose when protecting your hands either.

As with other golf mittens, the Under Armour Golf Coldgear Winter Mittens are not exactly made for the catwalk, but the branding on the back of the mittens gives them a hint of style. Ultimately, though, looks are immaterial. These are a serious bit of kit designed to keep you warm and benefit your game in the short and long term. And in that, they succeed admirably.
