Review: Under Armour Golf Extreme ColdGear Quarter Zip Pullover

Written by  Andrew Wild on Wednesday, 23 November 2011
Designed to keep you toasty without being bulky and impeding your swing, we tested the Under Armour Extreme ColdGear Quarter Zip Pullover to find out how well it performs.

Just as a wetsuit works by trapping a warm layer of water between the suit and your skin, this pullover circulates your body heat inside the jumper to keep you warm in cooler conditions. At the same time, you needn't worry about getting too sweaty if the sun does make an appearance, as the material also wicks away moisture from the inside.

The fleece lining feels incredibly soft and cosy, which was perfect for an early start on a crisp morning on the course. Pulling the front quarter zip up all the way allowed it to fit snugly around the neck to keep the heat in, without the need for extra accessories such as a scarf which could potentially get in the way.

This is undoubtedly the best thing about this pullover - it will enable you to play and perform at your best without the need for bulky outerwear. Lightweight yet exceptionally warm, Under Armour recommend that this pullover is best used under 13ºC and we would have to agree - a chilly morning round in temperatures of around 9ºC seemed no trouble for the ColdGear double-sided fabric.

Its one weakness is undoubtedly rain, and although a very light shower didn't prove to be too much of a problem, the pullover wouldn't stand up to heavier downpours. But throwing a lightweight waterproof over the top would provide protection against wind and rain, while still leaving you feeling much more agile than you may under a regular waterproof winter coat.

Overall, if you're beginning to feel the chill a little but you don't want to hinder your swing with a coat then this could well be the jumper for you. Warm and cosy, it's sure to see you though the autumn - and well into winter too.
