Review: Nicklaus Golf AirDraw Driver

Written by  Neal Granville on Sunday, 18 September 2011

Designed to reduce slicing, we tested the Nicklaus Golf AirDraw Driver to find out if it lives up to the Jack Nicklaus name.

The Nicklaus AirDraw Driver is aimed at those with a mid to high handicap and is intended to correct wider shots and help players guide the ball to where they want it to be. This is all achieved with a head design that pushes the legal maximum size to its very boundaries to leave you with the biggest possible club head you can play with.

With this kind of weight behind your shots, you really get to achieve maximum impact when striking the ball. But while brute force can reward you with more distance, that alone is not enough for a successful game. Fortunately it has more than just strength going for it.

The internal weight has been distributed carefully for maximum stability, which works in conjunction with the head's external slipstream technology to reduce air resistance. Together these features allow you to swing at a higher speed while still maintaining the control and accuracy required to make sure you hit your target. That accounts for control and speed but what about slice control?

This is taken care of by the club head's offset design, as well as weighting in the heel, which helps guide your ball on a more direct route. You will find that the shape of the head gives you a lot more control over the ball's path so any wider shots you make will be easier to draw back inwards. Added to this is a high resistance to twisting on impact.

Of course a club is nothing without its shaft - in this case a graphite shaft that manages to be lightweight for maximum manoeuvrability and speed, but also suitably rigid, which will allow your shots to stay solid and direct.

The Nicklaus AirDraw Driver offers a generous combination of speed and distance, with strength, stability and control to back your shots up, as well as anti-slice technology so your ball will fly true. It delivers on its promises and is perfect for those who wish to increase their accuracy without having to sacrifice distance. Slicing should no longer be a problem and before long you will learn how to draw your shots all the way to the green.

Recomended to me by professional at american golf a few weeks ago. Got the HL as was really struggling with my drives, kept slicing low...this club feels great to strike.

My distance hasnt improved, if anything it's decreased a little, with a true hit landing around 180 yards, but I am now confident enough to take it off the tee everytime where as before I was taking a 3 Iron every time.
