Review: TaylorMade Ladies RocketBallz Driver

Written by  Graham Green on Wednesday, 08 February 2012
Rarely has the launch of a new line of golf equipment been so eagerly anticipated as TaylorMade's RocketBallz range. So you can imagine our excitement at getting a chance to review the TaylorMade Ladies RocketBallz Driver.

This new driver has been designed to appeal to a wide variety of players, from low to high handicaps, is available in 10.5- and 13-degree lofts, and is adjustable much like TaylorMade's R11 driver. The company's tag line for their RocketBallz drivers is "brace yourself" - because, apparently, you'll be simply awe struck by the extreme distance you're likely to gain.

Well, we have to admit that we did indeed have a few jaw dropping moments with this driver. TaylorMade have, in our opinion, engineered their Ladies RocketBallz Driver to perfection.

To say we were impressed by the distance this club achieved would be an understatement. It benefits from a thick-thin crown design which lowers and moves the centre of gravity closer to the face, so promoting a higher launch, and an aerodynamic head to reduce wind resistance, resulting in a head speed one to two miles per hour faster than that of the Burner SuperFast 2.0. All this adds up to more distance, much more distance. This is even the case on mis-hits, thanks to the Ladies RocketBallz Driver's Inverted Cone club face technology which promotes faster ball speed and distance on off-center hits.

The driver also uses TaylorMade's Flight Control Technology (FCT), allowing you to optimize your ball flight by selecting one of eight different settings that adjust the club head's face, loft and lie angles. According to TaylorMade, this feature allows for a range of different launch conditions that promote up to 60 yards of side-to-side trajectory adjustment. We love the control this technology gives golfers - if you have a tendency to slice your shots for instance, the FCT system will most certainly help.

The club has the same matte-white crown and black face combination as TaylorMade's Burner Superfast 2.0 and R11 drivers. This white crown had its detractors when first introduced, but I think it's save to say that the design has proven to be effective. It makes the club easier to align and makes the head look larger at address, giving you more confidence as you prepare for your shot. And, the matte-white finish is also very effective at reducing glare.

TaylorMade's Ladies RocketBallz Driver is fitted with a lightweight Matrix XCON 5 graphite shaft which helps to increase swing speed, contributing to the impresive distance achieved by the club.

Frankly, this is truly an awesome driver. It looks great, sounds great, and produces immense power off the club face, giving you high speeds and great distance, while still remaining accurate.

What the Web is Saying

"The TaylorMade Rocketballz driver is all about increasing swing speed while still promoting accuracy. Isn't that the perfect formula for most average golfers?" - golf-equipment-reviews.com
