Review: TaylorMade R9 SuperTri Driver

Written by  Tim Pettifer on Monday, 25 July 2011

TaylorMade have combined Flight Control Technology and Moveable Weight Technology in a 460cc head for the first time with this driver, creating a high performance club suitable for all levels of golfer. We tested the TaylorMade R9 SuperTri Driver to find out just how good it really is.

The Flight Control Technology allows you to alter the face angle while the Moveable Weight Technology (with one 16-gram and two 1-gram weights included) lets you change the centre of gravity. Together these features offer maximum adjustability, essentially giving you up to 24 drivers in one.

This makes the R9 SuperTri highly adaptable to any style or ability of golfer, and because you can change the trajectory from one side to another by up to 75 yards, with a little bit of fine-tuning those slices and hooks will be a thing of the past.

Thanks to the Inverted Cone clubface technology and a 460cc head, the sweet spot is larger, making this driver extremely forgiving on off-centre hits. It doesn't look bulky or feel too heavy and sounds great when struck, particularly when hit squarely in the centre of the clubface.

Designed with a sleek aerodynamic crown, drag is dramatically reduced to create greater clubhead speed and distance. You'll definitely be hitting straighter and longer with this driver. We also loved the club's sleek black finish and how it looked at address.

TaylorMade's R9 SuperTri Driver comes equipped with a lightweight 60-gram Fujikura Motore graphite shaft for faster swing speeds. You don't need to hit the ball hard with this driver to gain distance, and accuracy is never sacrificed in the pursuit of distance.

We can't say enough good things about this driver, TaylorMade have pulled out all the stops with this one. It really is confidence inspiring for golfers of any handicap. Whatever area you wish to improve on, this club will help.

The R9 SuperTri consistently performs well. We found ourselves hitting far more fairways and achieving excellent distance with every shot. And as if all that wasn't enough, the R9 Super Tri Driver is also great value for money.

What the Web is Saying

"The dark finish and sole design of the R9 SuperTri give a powerful and aggressive look to match the performance. This is an all signing all dancing adjustable driver." - golfalot.com
