With the new Razr Hawk, Callaway have teamed up with Lamborghini cars to produce the head material that they've labeled as forged composite.
Why is that significant to a golf club? Well, forged composite material is both six times stronger than titanium, and three times lighter than titanium. And that's allowed Callaway to reposition a lot of weight internally inside the club head, to really make this golf club a lot more forgiving, and a lot more powerful.
In fact, compared to the FT-9 model which it's replaced, and which was the driver I was using last year, the club head is 40g lighter and 43% more efficient as it swings through the air. This means that the club head has 43% less drag than the old FT-9.
Couple those factors together with the fact that this club face is chemically milled titanium, which creates an incredibly fast ball speed as the ball leaves the club head, and you've got a driver that is a lot more powerful and a lot more forgiving than the FT-9 ever was.
