Video Review: TaylorMade RocketBallz Driver

Written by  Graham Green on Monday, 09 January 2012

Graham Green from the Leaderboard Golf Centre in Reading reviews the much awaited new offering from TaylorMade: the RocketBallz driver, new for 2012.

TaylorMade have been incredibly excited about the launch of this driver, and in fact at the back end of 2011 the hype started. It's finally arrived: the RocketBallz driver.

This driver is a first in the mid-market price point, because it can be fine-tuned. It's got Flight Control Technology, so the head can be removed from the shaft, and it can be changed by plus or minus 1.5 degrees to change the ball flight.

As you give more loft to the ball flight, you close the face slightly, so it's got a range of open or closed on the club face to plus or minus three degrees.

So a 10.5 driver can become a twelve degree and slightly closed driver, or a nine degree driver which will be slightly more open. This gives a lot of versatility for many golfers out there.

What you'll notice differently here on the RocketBallz is this aerodynamic crown shape, which will produce more club head speed and more ball speed off the club face.

Like a lot of TaylorMade products, it comes with the Inverted Cone Technology in the club face, which means nice powerful shots not only off the centre, but equally those that are slightly off-centre.

One addition here, similar to the Burner range in 2011, is the anti-glare white finish with the black club face, which really helps alignment as well.

So this is a really exciting product for 2012: the RocketBallz 360cc driver by TaylorMade, replacing the Burner - and it's going to be a real winner.

I'm going to head off to the driving range and hit a few shots with it, and I'll come back and tell you guys exactly what I think.

Well that was incredibly exciting, and I bet you guys can't wait to get your hands on this product.

It was superb - I really enjoyed the fact that, for a mid-range driver, you can fine-tune it slightly with this Flight Control Technology, and there was definitely a big difference in how that launch came off on the highest setting - slightly higher, and definitely moved to the left. I tweaked it down to the nine degree setting too and again you could see that was a much straighter flight, and slightly to the right. For stronger players, that's really going to help.

It sounded incredibly powerful off the club face, really easy to use, very lightweight and a lovely lightweight shaft and grip that they've included - again for me that felt like there was a lot more club head speed and more power going into the ball.

Over the Burner of 2011, this is fantastic. I can certainly see why there was a lot of hype. All I can say is don't watch me any longer - get yourself down and hit some shots with it, you're going to love it.
