The first thing you notice is the colour scheme: a matte white crown and black face instantly identify it as a TaylorMade club, and it looks incredibly smart. This design decision wasn't for purely aesthetic purposes, as the finish also reduces glare drastically - making any round in the sun more enjoyable. Against a white ball the black face makes alignment much easier, too. This all adds up to make a club that inspires confidence like no other at address.
Perhaps the most talked about feature of the R11S range is the flight control technology. The loft of the ladies fairway wood is adjustable to 1.5°, and this, in combination with the adjustable sole plate which allows you to alter the face to closed or open by 2° gives you a total of 24 combinations - which is enough to keep any perfectionist happy.
It's also worth noting that it's possible to open or close the face without altering the loft, which is an improvement over the R11 fairway wood from last year.
The other big improvement over last year's model is the slightly more streamlined head. In practice, this makes the latest offering a lot more effective from more difficult lies, which is great news for any golfer who has trouble finding the fairways.
This fairway wood certainly proved itself a club for all conditions on the course, with shots taken from the rough surprisingly successful. This would make it a fantastic addition to any golfer's bag, and the flight control technology means that you can tailor it perfectly to your game too.
We were really impressed with the Ladies R11S Fairway Wood, and remain confident that any improving player would get a lot out of it even if the loft and face options were left unchanged.
