We speak to blogger, Terry Lane, who writes for Buzzin Golf as part of the Buzzin Media blog network. He shares his thoughts with Leaderboard about controversial blogging, social media and how he relaxes when he's not playing his favourite sport.
How did you get into golf?
Four years ago a friend suggested I take up the sport to replace football and squash which I had decided to give up.
If you had to name one thing you love the most about golf, what would it be?
Playing a great game while relaxing away from the rush of life / business and exercising with a countryside walk.
What has been your favourite golfing moment personally?
Having a great round where instead of the normal great hole or two, followed by a nightmare, I managed to play well above my handicap.
What has been your favourite professional golfing moment?
Nothing beats the Ryder Cup!
How did you get into blogging?
My background is web development and internet marketing. A few years ago my company began offering social media and blog management services to our corporate clients. With a partner I saw there was a space to setup a blog network in the UK which allowed me to blog about several of my favourites hobbies including golf, football and music. Which other golf blogs or news sites do you read?
Unfortunately, managing two companies, I don’t get much time to read other blog sites.
What makes a good golf blog?
Original content that provokes discussion. Consider being controversial or at very least opinionated.
Do you follow any golfers / golf fanatics on Twitter?
No.
Do you think the golfing industry is using social media well?
I’m not sure of the golf industry particularly. But it is only in the past 12 months that many companies / industries in the UK have begun to understand how social media can work for them. For future trends, keep an eye on what is happening in the USA.
Do you think golf courses could benefit by using the internet and social media?
Yes.
Do you buy golfing equipment online? What are some of your favourite places?
Yes, being a lefty there’s no better place than www.lefthandedgolf.co.uk.
Do you watch golf tutorials online? If so, where? What is great about them?
No.
What are your golfing and blogging goals for 2011?
To play more & in the process get a lower handicap. Buzzin Media is in the process of moving to the next level in 2011.
