Video Tutorial: Neal Granville's downhill putting tip

Neal Granville, PGA Professional and Director of Golf at Sandford Springs in Hampshire, shows you how to make those terrifying downhill putts!

Hi, I’m Neal Granville, PGA professional and director of golf here at Leaderboard’s Sandford Springs Golf Club in Hampshire.

I’m here today to talk about scary downhill putts. Today I’ve got an eight-foot putt, downhill, there’s a good chance that if I miss the put I could end up eight feet past the hole again.

So, two simple tips – the first one being that rather than using the middle of the face of the putter we’re going to use the toe end.

The reason behind this is when we use the toe end, it will kill the strike of the putt and the ball wont come away from the putter as fast, and the second is that we’re going to use light grip pressure.

So let’s give it a go.

Neal takes responsibility for the running of the golf course, retail and coaching at Sandford Springs. It is a role that makes everyday a new one and keeps him busy so he has to rely on the people around him.

"My team at Sandford Springs are incredibly important to me. I can trust them to get the job done and I know that our members and guests at Sandford will always receive an experience and service that is second to none," he said.

Neal’s favourite holes at Sandford Springs are 13, 14 and 15 which in his words are ‘Sandford’s own Amen corner’! Neal started off his professional career following a collegiate scholarship in the USA and like most golf pros he had ambitions of being the world number one.
