USPGA Champion Keegan Bradley shares the Northern Trust Open lead with four-time Major winner Phil Mickelson but, with ten players separated by three shots, a tight finish beckons on Sunday.
Bradley tied for the lowest round of the day, a five-under 66, taking him to seven under and putting him a great position to claim a first win since his dramatic major triumph in Atlanta.
It was Groundhog Day for Mickelson as he scrambled round the Riviera Country Club for a one-under 70, but he chose to put a positive spin on his struggles.
“I did not play well, and I shot one under par and I'm atop the leaderboard,” said Mickelson, whose drive on the 15th came to rest inside the hem of a spectator's shorts.
“Usually when I win, I'll have two good rounds and two rounds that aren't so great.”
Bradley and Mickelson will be the last pairing out on Sunday but the eventual victor could easily come from the chasing pack.
The American trio of Pat Perez, Jonathan Byrd and Bryce Molder sit a shot back on six under.
Australia's Aaron Baddeley, who, like Bradley and Molder, shot a 66, joins dangerous Americans Dustin Johnson and Bill Haas on five under and fellow Australian Jarrod Lyle shares ninth with Ryan Moore at four under.
Mickelson is aiming to be the first player since Tiger Woods in 2009 to claim back-to-back Tour victories, having claimed the Pebbel Beach National Pro-Am last week.
