Crane and Lewis Win with Titleist and FootJoy

Written by  Graham Green on Thursday, 20 October 2011
Leading golf equipment manufacturer Titleist and golf shoe and glove producer FootJoy have long been the number one choice for professional golfers. Thanks to Tom Lewis and Ben Crane, among others, their own winning streak continues.

When the McGladrey Classic went past the regulation 72 holes, the fourth PGA Tour win in four weeks for a player trusting a full bag of Titleist equipment was guaranteed. Titleist Brand Ambassadors Ben Crane and Webb Simpson both trusted the precision and performance of Titleist equipment to tie on 15-under-par before Crane emerged victorious with a par at the second extra hole. Crane joins fellow full line Titleist players Bill Haas, Kevin Na and Bryce Molder in the winner's circle, each of whom has tasted victory in recent weeks, and becomes the sixteenth different player to trust a full bag of Titleist equipment to claim victory on the PGA Tour in 2011. Titleist's winning form continued around the world as Pro V1x loyalist Tom Lewis won the Portugal Masters in just his third professional outing, whilst there were further wins for four other Titleist golf ball loyalists across the worldwide professional tours as the legendary Pro V1 franchise remained the choice of champions.

Posting birdies at eight of his final 11 holes, Crane trusted a host of Titleist equipment to claim his first win of 2011, including the Pro V1x golf ball, 910D2 driver, 910F fairway metal, 910H hybrid, AP2 irons, and Vokey Design Wedges. Despite finishing as runner-up, Titleist Brand Ambassador Webb Simpson moved to the top of the PGA Tour money list, overtaking fellow Pro V1x loyalist and World number one Luke Donald. Following four winning weeks on the PGA Tour, the feel and control of the Pro V1 franchise was once again the choice of the majority of the top finishers. Each of the top four, and nine of the top 10 players at the event put their trust in the performance of Titleist golf balls. Titleist was also the overwhelming golf ball of choice with 87 players, nearly seven times the nearest competitor with 13, and also topped the counts for iron sets, sand, lob and approach wedges and putters.

The success of Tom Lewis and Ben Crane has also been great news for FootJoy. FJ Brand Ambassador Lewis produced a stunning seven-under-par final round of 65 to become the youngest ever Portugal Masters champion and claim his maiden title in only his third start as a professional. Relying on the all-round excellence and comfort of FJ Icon and the superior feel and performance of an FJ StaSof glove, Lewis showed maturity beyond his 20 years coming down the stretch at The Oceânico Victoria Golf Course, reeling off four birdies in the final five holes to finish 21 under-par for the week and claim a two-shot victory over fellow FJ loyalist, Rafael Cabrera-Bello.

Ben Crane and Webb Simpson ensured four successive victories on both of golf's major tours for the market-leading shoe company, thanks to their head-to-head playoff at the McGladrey Classic. Sporting a pair of DryJoys Tour golf shoes and FJ Pure Touch glove, Crane claimed the title and a $720,000 winner's cheque.

A first victory of 2011 for Titleist and FJ Brand Ambassador Ben Crane, and a maiden European Tour win for Titleist golf ball loyalist and FJ Brand Ambassador Tom Lewis continues to prove that the world's best players opt for the matchless performance of Titleist, and the comfort and superior feel of FootJoy for their success.

Graham Green

Graham runs the Leaderboard Golf Centre - a very busy 37-bay Driving Range, Retail Store, Custom Fitting and Coaching improvement Centre.

He also runs the retail side for Reading Golf Club, where Leaderboard have a second shop.

His role consists of a multitude of responsibilities, from standard office work to face-to-face selling, custom fitting and team management. In his own words – "It's a very varied role and always full on, yet extremely challenging and exciting. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, so and I'll do most jobs if required - that includes, being a green-keeper, repair man and general Jack of all trades."

Graham started his golf career at Reading Golf Club working with Andrew Wild, who was the head professional there at the time. When Paul and Jennifer Gibbons set up Leaderboard and purchased the driving range in December 1999, Graham jumped at the chance to work for them.

It was Paul Gibbons' enthusiasm for golf, along with his business acumen, which encouraged Graham and meant that he didn't hesitate when he was given the opportunity to work for Leaderboard. Graham believes it's a privilege and a pleasure to be working with such great people on the Leaderboard team.

Graham qualified from the PGA with Distinction in 2003, gaining a Titleist Scholarship. A couple of years later, when Andrew Wild moved across to run Sandford Springs Golf Club, Graham was promoted to General Manager at the Leaderboard Golf Centre.

He describes the favourite parts of his job role with great enthusiasm – "My biggest buzz is seeing amateur golfers of all abilities improving and enjoying the game more. Golf has been very good to me and being able to give back to the sport gives me great drive and determination."

Interesting. This is something that I can modify to use during our brainstorming sessions for story development.

They're certainly doing well with the likes of Ben Crane and Tom Lewis! Feel free to check out more of our Titleist reviews: http://www.leaderboardgolf.co.uk/tag/titleist.html. Thanks!
