Larrazabal wins play-off in Munich

Written by  on Monday, 27 June 2011
Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal has beaten compatriot Sergio Garcia after a fifth extra hole at the BMW International Open in Munich.

Englishman Mark Foster had been the overnight leader with 14 under, but a round of 72 saw him maintain his score while the two Spaniards shot four under par 68s to force a play-off.

It was to take another five holes before Garcia three putted at the par five 18th while Larrazabal was able to knock in the ball in four to claim his win.

The Spaniards had traded blows throughout the day before 28 year old Larrazabal took his second title on the European Tour. The result means that both men will qualify for next month's Open at Sandwich.

Having landed in the water on the fourth Foster never looked like he was able to catch the leaders and ended sharing third place with Scotland's Scott Jamieson, South Africans Retief Goosen and George Coetzee, and Dutchman Joost Luiten.

England's Robert Coles also put in a great performance to finish with three behind the leaders at 13 under, while Colin Montgomerie could only finish at 9 under.

Home favourite, German Martin Kaymer, shared joint 18th with Montgomerie. The result means that US Open Champion moves up the World Golf Rankings to third. With Luke Donald and Lee Westwood in first and second, it is the first time that all top three spots have been filled by UK players since the ranking began in 1986.

David Colyer

David manages all aspects of the operation at both Dale Hill and Chart Hills. As a Director and a member of the board, he assists Paul and Jennifer in the running of Leaderboard.

David had been in hotel management for 20 years, the majority of which he spent working for the Goring family at the Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells. He was looking for his next challenge when the position of General Manger at Dale Hill became available in 2003. David had been for a number of interviews with other companies but when he met Paul and Jennifer for the first time he knew where he wanted to be.

David believed that they held the same approach to hospitality; that the focus was on getting the service right for the customers. In 2008 the General Manager at Chart Hills left the organisation and after meeting with Paul and Jennifer, David took over running both properties. In December 2010 Paul and Jennifer invited David to join them on the board as a Director of Leaderboard.

David loves his job and believes he is privileged to have the opportunity to run Dale Hill and Chart Hills. In his own words – "When I'm standing on the 5th tee on the Woosnam Course or I'm pulling into the drive at Chart Hills I stop and think – it does not get better than this."
