Video Tutorial: Par 18 Putting Drill

Written by  Neal Granville on Wednesday, 17 August 2011
Neal Granville, director of golf at Sandford Springs Golf Club, demonstrates a great drill to help you improve your short game.

I'm here today to help you improve your golf scores - that's the one thing that all golfers want, and we know that short game practice is the fastest way to do it.

Today I'm going to introduce you to a really good practice drill, which is called Par 18.

The idea is that you have nine different holes that you're going to chip and putt to. To start off, chip the ball onto the green, then putt the ball until the ball goes in, and then record that as a score.

Play the nine holes, and if by the end of it you're above par 18 then it tells you that you need to keep practising, and certainly if you're below it then you're doing a really good job.

So the things that you need to play Par 18 are as follows:

  • One golf ball
  • A putter
  • A club to chip with
  • Most importantly, a score card!

The great thing is that I've put myself under pressure when practicing, and that's exactly what you need to do to get your scores down. So get back to the club, practice, try it with some friends, become competitive, and beat your score.
