Adidas's ClimaCool technology is the third in their collection of clothing lines specifically designed for different situations - sitting alongside their ClimaLite and ClimaWarm ranges.
As the name implies, the idea is to keep you nice and cool during long rounds in the sun, which is something that we all begin to think about as the nights get shorter and the days longer and warmer.
We tried out their textured solid polo shirt on a hot day to see if it really delivered.
The first thing we noticed was just how soft the fabric felt - not stiff or scratchy at all. When you think about technology and clothing together, instantly images are conjured up of uncomfortable, ill-fitting garments whose technological ends are given priority over comfort. But this was not the case at all with Adidas's ClimaCool polo shirt: well tailored, it's fitted but just loose enough to not feel restrictive or hot.
The fabric itself is said to be "highly breathable" and the idea is that it wicks moisture (or rather sweat) away from the body to be evaporated as quickly as possible. Now of course it's impossible to say for sure precisely how well it would measure up against a standard cotton tee, but I certainly didn't ever feel as though I was getting uncomfortably hot.
The shirt also offers UV protection, which is great if you're prone to sunburn, and especially reassuring since the material is quite thin. The light weave helps to keep you cool, but it's nice to know that your skin won't suffer if you're out in the heat of the day for too long.
By the end of a round on an uncharacteristically warm April day I have to say I was impressed. While others were feeling sticky and in desperate need of a shower, the ClimaCool definitely lived up to its name - so if you often find yourself sweltering in the summer, then you could do far worse than grabbing yourself a couple of these polo shirts.
