Hyperbolic Face technology ensures that ball speeds will be at a maximum right across the face. They’ve achieved this by strategically shaping the face of the club and removing any unwanted material with a chemical reduction process. Once they’ve achieved the right thickness and shape for the face of the club, the sweet spot will be drastically larger - this means that any off-centre hits won't suffer too much and you should see a really high level of consistency with your drives.
As well as a vastly improved clubface; external and perimeter weighting are utilised to ensure the perfect ball flight every time. Fusion Technology combines a titanium face cup with an ultra-light carbon composite body, improving the accuracy and workability of the club. Overall, this means you are getting a reliable and versatile driver.
Callaway have made a really good-looking club, which performs to a professional standard. With a 440cc head featuring a deep face and small footprint, it looks amazing at address, and the full-length tour hosel gives it an aesthetic which highly skilled players tend to prefer. Whether this affects performance or not is a moot point, you can't deny how slick this club looks.
We loved this club because it just felt great right from the word go. The light body was incredibly workable and versatile, yet the careful weighting and composition of the head yielded some really impressive ball speeds. In fact, we found that our drives went a lot further than we expected with the FT Tour. The flight was clean and penetrative - there was none of the high, loopy flight that we suspected we might encounter - a flight path which, although giving good distance, falls down horribly at the slightest breeze.
No, instead we found the launch from the FT Tour to be much flatter but easily powerful enough to send the ball far off into the distance. The feedback is good, too - many have slated the Fusion series in the past for sounding hollow, but this could not be said about the FT Tour, whose solid, muted sound inspires confidence straight away.
The precision shaping and weighting really works well with this driver, meaning that even when our swing was a little off and we hit the ball badly, we still managed to achieve good distances.
We feel that the FT Tour would be a great addition to your golf bag. With some fantastic technologies incorporated into this club, we're confident that you would see your game improve considerably after an investment in Callaway's latest addition.
What the Web is Saying
"This club creates a low and penetrating ball flight, which created more distance as well. It does take a few swings to get used to because of the way it sets up and the shape of the nose of the club, but once you get used to the way this driver looks it swings very smooth and the pop at impact makes it worth a try for sure." - bestgolfdriversreview.net
"That dreadful clunky sound seems to be a thing of the past now. The FT Tour delivers a solid noise at impact that is altogether more pleasing." - golfmagic.com
"Although a fine club, the Callaway FT Tour driver isn't for beginners - or for that matter, 90% of the golfers out there. It's designed and built for highly skilled players, so you'd be wise to stay away unless you have a single-digit handicap." - golf-equipment-reviews.com
