The r7 TP Driver features the famous Moveable Weight technology, which TaylorMade has developed further with now four ports inserted in the 460cc SuperQuad head. This allows you to control your driving power with extreme precision with the possibility of inserting six moveable weights (2x1g, 2x12g, 1x10g and 1x14g) into the ports and therefore choose between 102 centre of gravity positions. In order to maximise the inertia in impact position, TaylorMade has used Titanium to design the r7 SuperQuad TP head with extremely thin walls (1 millimetre thick).
The beautiful and massive metallic head is also equipped with the Inverted Cone Technology that creates high inertia for a maximum impact between the ball and the clubface. The latter is open with a 1° alignment, which provides great accuracy and consistency to your drives. TaylorMade has also located the centre of gravity of the driver on a very low and deep spot, which makes it incredibly easy to realise extremely high and long shots.
Finally, the r7 SuperQuad TP Driver is available with various RE AX shafts, all of which are designed and made by Fujikura. These considerably flatten the curve of the ball trajectory and therefore improve the length, speed, straightness and stability of the ball flight.
One of the great things about the r7 SuperQuad TP driver is its incredible power combined with the tolerance provided by the 460cc clubface (biggest size allowed by the USGA). Starting with the weights set on factory neutral settings, we were already able to launch the ball at rocket speed and over awesome distance. Everything from the balance and the sound to the ball flight was perfect. The large open face and the low centre of gravity make you really confident – you feel that you can hit the ball really hard without fearing that it will go left, which is rare with “Tour” drivers. The shaft feels very comfortable too.
However, what we preferred about the r7 SuperQuad TP is by far the Moveable Weight technology. It really allows you to taylor your shots with extreme precision before you even set yourself up to hit the ball. The weights can be used to shape the ball trajectory, high or low, fade or draw so that you can virtually adapt to any course of weather conditions. After adjusting the weights ourselves, we were able to prevent slicing the ball while keeping that extra power asset. This club really helps you improve the consistency of your drives and give the ball a much lower penetrating trajectory and a really good spin, which in turns improves the rolling distance.
Finally, the sound Titanium construction makes it a very durable investment that will remain intact no matter how hard and how often you hit the ball with it. Chances are it will be very often once you get hold of this champion!
This club is a true masterpiece and a must-have in your carry bag. It will allow you to successfully adapt to any condition and swing powerfully with great consistency and confidence.
Available in 8.5°, 9.5° and 10.5°; includes two years Guarantee.
What the Web is Saying
"We liked the all black head finish which gave it sinister look, although some may not like the face and crown being the same colour for alignment. Performance wise it was very good and moving the weights around did affect the trajectory." - golfalot.com
