It has a performance advantage over all-titanium drivers with the lighter clubhead giving you an average of eight yards more than the Diablo Edge Driver. The crown has 10 million turbostratic carbon fibers that form 33% of the clubhead allowing for a reduced head weight yet retaining an exceptionally high MOI.
The Hyperbolic Face Technology uses a chemical reduction technique to eliminate excess material. This achieves precision thickness control and creates enhanced accuracy and high ball speeds for added distance, even on mis-hits.
The body of the Diablo Octane Black Driver has been aerodynamically designed in order to improve all hedge transitions which in turn lowers drag and wind resistance by up to 8%. Another new specification to this driver is the Project X Graphite Shaft, longer by 45 inches and giving better clubhead speeds.
With this, the performance and feel are greatly enhanced. The Diablo Octane doesn't just perform well, but looks good too, with a sleek black finish that is exclusive to the European market.
Callaway and Lamborghini decided to collaborate after discovering they were both developing similar advanced composites. The revolutionary result of their combined efforts – Forged Composite – has produced a superior driver that has even more speed and strength than its predecessors.
To say we were impressed by this driver would be an understatement! It looks great and feels great. The noise it makes on impact with the ball is very satisfying. With most composite drivers you get a rather muffled sound but with this it has a more solid resonance.
The club aligns well behind the ball and every hit seemed effortless, with excellent results each time. The ball had a really high line of flight and achieved impressive distances.
Callaway state that the lighter clubhead of the Diablo Octane Black Driver will give you an average of eight extra yards over the Diablo Edge Driver – I even managed to find an extra fifteen yards on one shot. The conditions were calm though and I would think you would typically gain the distance they specified when playing in windy conditions.
The club was light and reacted well, giving improved precision, even on shots that were slightly misaligned. Despite my reservations, I found the longer Project X shaft responded well to my swing.
If you are looking for a new driver, we would definitely recommend the Diablo Octane Black Driver. The combination of the Project X shaft and lighter clubhead has convinced us that, if you're looking to improve your game, this driver would be an excellent choice for a player of any standard.
