Review: Mizuno Golf Ladies JPX800 Driver

Written by  Jenny Longmuir on Thursday, 12 May 2011

If you're looking to upgrade your driver, you should consider the Mizuno Ladies JPX800 which we review here.

This year Mizuno launched the new ladies driver in its JPX800 series and it must be said we were mightily impressed with it. The successor to Mizuno's highly popular MX series, the Mizuno Golf Ladies JPX800 Driver is packed full of technology. The Hot Metal, multi-thickness club face is designed to produce consistently high ball speeds with an improved vertical moment of inertia (MOI) for those off centre hits, while the ultra thin crown design maximises the carry of the golf ball. This model is aimed at lady golfers of all handicaps.

The Mizuno Golf Ladies JPX800 Driver is a good-looking club and it performs well too. We were most impressed with the way this club helps to reduce the likelihood of the pull straight left shot - the bane of many an amateur golfer. This is accomplished through the square club face with its complex internal weighting system. We certainly saw an improvement in accuracy as we began to convert our swings into more precise shots down the fairway.

Through information gathered from Tour testing and National Fitting Centres, Mizuno discovered that the majority of distance loss happens due to golfers miss-hitting the ball, either high or low on the club face. Mizuno's solution has been to increase the vertical MOI on the JPX800. We found the improved vertical MOI kept those often frustrating off centre hits on course and maintained the speed of the ball as it travelled. Seeing our shots stay true and gain distance gave us great confidence in our game.

Achieving accuracy and distance is the primary feature of the Mizuno Golf Ladies JPX800 Driver. The Hot Metal construction on the club face along with an extra thin Ti crown (only 0.7mm) produces excellent vertical stability. This has the added benefit of reducing spin while creating a high, penetrating ball flight. Too much spin can certainly be a real problem for golfers, but we managed plenty of high launches and soft landings.

At address this club just looked and felt right. It performed brilliantly on the day we tested it, with every facet of its technology working in complete harmony.

This is an extremely forgiving club and a great help to any woman golfer looking to improve her game and minimise distance loss. You will be a much more confident player using the Mizuno Golf Ladies JPX800 driver as you hit the ball further and reap the rewards of this comprehensively designed club.
