The new line includes the now familiar Daytona, Fontana, Indy, Sebring and Maranello head designs.
The new Classic 79 putters are the successors to the TaylorMade Core Classic line, offering a great quality putter that costs a little under £100.
The putters are made of stainless steel with a jet black finish providing a classic look and feel, with Pure Roll insert technology promoting smoother roll, reduced bounce and delivering greater control.
They also have a balanced heel and toe design that reduces the club head twisting on impact as well as offset necks that allow you to get right over the ball at address. These quality putters have a single sightline in the cavity.
The club face incorporates TaylorMade's new 'Pure Roll' technology. The insert has been designed to get its grooves in contact with the ball to reduce skipping and help the ball roll smoother.
With traditional putters at impact the loft of the club face can lift the ball off the ground, imparting backspin. When the ball lands it can skid before rolling forward.
Or if the putter face is too low the ball is driven downward into the grass slowing momentum. In either instance the ball can deviate from its true line. The insert in this putter has been designed to deform on impact, putting the grooves into direct contact with the ball resulting in a smoother roll.
The face seems to be somewhat softer than the old AGSI+ face insert while also providing great feedback as you strike the ball.
The single white sightline against the black mallet or blade type club heads really does allow for easy alignment at address. Coupled with the off set neck to allow you to stand over the ball and focus your eye without being distracted by the club shape.
These TaylorMade Classic putters use the same technology of the more expensive Ghost range, combining their proven performance in an exceptionally well-priced product.
Available in a variety of lengths, in both left and right hand options, and with six classic head shapes to choose from this modern reincarnation should live up to its name as a classic.
