Review: TaylorMade Ladies Monza Spider Vicino Putter

Written by  Graham Green on Monday, 23 May 2011

While they may not be the prettiest of putters, TaylorMade has endeavoured to improve the look of the Monza Spider Vicino Putter in comparison to earlier models in their Spider range. We review the TaylorMade Ladies Monza Spider Vicino Putter here.

TaylorMade has streamlined this model and done away with the rather elaborate club head of the original. As part of The Monza Spider Vicino's new design, the rear 'wings' have been moved closer together on the body, but without sacrificing stability and MOI. This has been achieved by making the central core of the putter head lighter and the wings heavier. The mid sized putter also has a single alignment aid on top of the putter head so you can align your putt more accurately.

If you can get over its appearance, we would say there are undoubtedly benefits to using the Ladies Monza Spider Vicino Putter.

Perhaps the best thing is that it is more compact, not so fussy, and most definitely an improvement on earlier Spider models. The feel on impact is very solid, and we found the sleek sight line for alignment worked really well. Lining up for a putt was made so much easier.

The putter has a composite AGSI+ insert made from carbon fibre and resin that TaylorMade claim promotes forward spin and when we tested it, we did indeed see significant improvement in distance. Our only criticism is that we did struggle to consistently find the sweet spot with our putting strokes - it was a little hit and miss in this regard. When we did manage to strike the ball off the sweet spot however, the roll was very smooth and controlled.

Also, the TaylorMade Ladies Monza Spider Vicino Putter has built in Moveable Weight Technology. This is a great feature as it allows the lady golfer to customise the putter to her game by simply increasing or decreasing the head weight.

Golfers who prefer the more traditional style of putter may be put off by the look of this one, but if you are willing to give it a try, the Spider Vicino offers good distance control and excellent accuracy when lining the ball up for a putt.

What the Web is Saying

"The biggest issue I found was the inconsistent strike. Eighty percent of putts felt dead off the face until I tried hitting the ball with the putter hovering a centimetre off the ground. The sweetspot became more obvious, but it was still very hit and miss."
