Cheaper golf
With the current economic climate, golf clubs around the country are offering reduced green fees during the winter months. There has also been a widespread movement to significantly limit or abandon the use of temporary greens and tee mats. With cheap rates and ample daylight for a four-ball, winter golf is as accessible as ever.
No course hold ups
It would be almost impossible to find someone that hasn't, at one point or another, been held up by slow, inconsiderate play. Even though slow play has been recognised as one of the key issues in golf, there are still some players that don't believe they are part of the problem. Play golf in winter and you won't be complaining about being held up.
Course management
Most would agree that golf is more enjoyable when you have to employ a specific strategy in order to succeed. Plotting your way around a golf course is imperative in winter; you are simply unable to power a course into submission. Most of all, it is a different challenge to the one we are normal accustomed to. If we don't enjoy a challenge, why play the sport?
Scenery
There is just something about being out on the golf course on a dry, cold but sunny morning. The frost glints off the trees and grass and there is a beautiful sense of still. Views can be staggering on a clear day, with a surprisingly warming sun making for an extremely pleasant experience.
Lift clean and place
Being given permission to lift, clean and place your ball is a huge advantage. It eradicates any possibility of finding a divot or poor lie, provided you are the fairway. You can have complete trust in both your contact and how the ball will react, translating into a more positive commitment through the ball.
